The stereotypical Aussie man is strong, stoic and tough as nails. He laughs in the face of fear, and if life ever gets him down he drinks a cup of concrete and hardens the fuck up. But with male suicide rates three times that of women, it appears the pressure to harden up maybe making some men crack. Enter Gus Worland, co-host of the Sydney Triple M Grill Team and unofficial bloke expert. He’s not a shrink, but he talks, and listens, to men every day for a living; and he genuinely cares about their welfare. A few years back Gus’ was devastated by the loss of a close mate to suicide. Now Gus is on a mission to find out what it really means to be a man today and how the average Aussie bloke is actually faring.
The Australian Men’s Health Forum is the peak body for men’s health in Australia. We are fortunate to live in one of the World’s healthiest societies, yet men of all backgrounds have less chance of living healthy lives: we die younger; experience more disease and have less access to support services. Research shows that the best way to improve men’s health is to tackle the underlying social factors like boys’ education; our experiences of fatherhood; our working lives; our social connections and our access to male-friendly services. AMHF is at the centre of a diverse network of individuals and organisations working together to tackle the social factors that shape men and boys’ health. We want to create a healthier future for men and boys’ by tackling the male health crisis and getting the world working for men and boys.

Australian men are 2 times more likely to die from skin cancer than their female counterparts. Born out of the minds of legend Scott Maggs and mates, Beard Season is a fundraiser with the aim of improving access and awareness for the early detection of skin cancer. From the 1st of June to the 31st of August, men are encouraged to grow their beards and see the primary care provider, skin clinic, or dermatologist for a skin check. The funds raised are used to connect people to healthcare specialists.
